Berkshire and the (First World) War

Index to Names in Photographs

'Berkshire and the War' was published and printed by the Reading Standard in 1916. It contains 1500 individual named photos of Berkshire residents who were fighting at that time, it includes many serving in other than the County regiments, such as The Royal Flying Core and The Guards.

There are sections on Patriotic families, Brothers in arms, and many group photos, mostly only titled with the Battalion name. Also included are many pictures of Reading during the war and its many patriotic activities.

Lastly there are a number of eye witness accounts of actions undertaken by The county regiment, The Teritorials andThe Berkshire Yeomanry.

This index was compiled by Bill Boyall to make the task of finding a relative more simple.

Click on the letter of a name that interests you to find out whether any person of that name appears in the photographs.

We regret that we  are currently unable to repond to queries for more information at the present time. However the photos are now published on CD. See purchase details in the Military and Maritime section of our Booklist.
